HAR cords

The European types, and why we stock them

Equipment that ships into CE markets wants a harmonized cord, and a harmonized cord is named by a code instead of letters: H for harmonized, a voltage class, the insulation and jacket materials, F for flexible. We stock the two that matter and one reel listed for both worlds.

Reading the code

  • H — harmonized (CENELEC).
  • 05 / 07 — voltage class: 300/500 V or 450/750 V.
  • V / R — insulation: PVC or rubber (EPR).
  • V / N — jacket: PVC or polychloroprene (neoprene) rubber.
  • -F — flexible, fine-stranded conductors.

H05VV-F is therefore PVC in and out, 300/500 V: the indoor appliance and equipment cord (HD 21.5). H07RN-F is rubber in and out, 450/750 V: the outdoor, site-power and heavy-duty cord (HD 22.4), and the one that tolerates cold, oil and abrasion.

Sizes

Harmonized cord is sized in mm², not AWG. On our chart a 0.75 mm² reel sits in the 18 AWG row, 1.0 mm² in 17, 1.5 mm² in 16, 2.5 mm² in 14, 4 mm² in 12, 6 mm² in 10, 10 mm² in 8, 16 mm² in 6 — the nearest cell, so you can compare prices across the two systems.

Our UNIV PVC cord is listed UL and CSA for North America and HAR-marked for Europe on one jacket. One reel, one part on the drawing, both markets.

Conductor colours differ

Harmonized cord is brown / blue / green-yellow, not black / white / green. The colour codes.
